A prototype development for Marriott Hotels International. Courtyard by Marriott delivers the feel of the Marriott brand, but with a limited provision of services appropriate to the location. Careful design and value engineering has been completed to ensure this model can be developed throughout Europe, and is attractive to customers, developers and franchisees alike.
In design terms, the client wanted an identifiable building that would be easily recognised as a 'Courtyard by Marriott' as the brand becomes established throughout the UK and beyond. It was equally important that the building was active and attractive on approach.
The design comprises identifiable elements. The plinth contains the public spaces with large areas of glazing. The bedroom block sits above and is contained within a single element of high quality rainscreen cladding. The guestrooms are expressed within a grid interlaced with terracotta cladding and coloured glass.
This development also includes a large conferencing and function suite which is designed as an extension to the main block. This is designed as a 'plug-in' element and allows flexibility when the model is applied to other sites.
