Newcastle
Urban regeneration has been an important opportunity for developers and an exciting challenge for designers. Our client partnered with Newcastle City Council on this ambitious city centre redevelopment, and the centrepiece for a new town square.
Previous planning applications had been controversial and after six years the council were unhappy with the design direction. The developer was also not prepared to proceed with an expensive solution, and compromised design. From our appointment as architects we completed design and negotiated the planning approval within 3 weeks. The council were delighted with the design, and the developer reduced the build cost by a significant proportion.
A glazed base brought activation to the public realm, and connected St James' Boulevard to the new piazza.
The successful conclusion to this project highlights the approach to design we adopt. The planners, the developer, and even the building contractor were delighted with our service, and the design.
